The Story Behind The Icon - Looking for Negroni

The Story Behind The Icon - Looking for Negroni

Florence, 1919. Count Camillo Negroni is spending his evening, as he usually does, at the Caffè Casoni. But something is different: as he is placing his order, he asks his bartender and friend, Fosco Scarselli, to add a splash of gin to his usual Americano.

This Negroni Week, immerse yourself fully in the story behind this iconic cocktail with the documentary Looking for Negroni where Luca Picchi and other master bartenders retrace all its history, from its birth to its rising fame.

NEGRONI: A CAMPARI STORY

Dating back to Florence in 1919, the Negroni cocktail is said to have been created by Fosco Scarselli in his bar, Café Casoni, after the renowned Count Camilo Negroni asked him to strengthen his favourite cocktail – the Americano – by replacing soda water with a splash of gin. Scarselli added an orange slice as garnish, rather than the usual lemon twist, and from this moment on, the Negroni was born.
